Orange Juice Blending System
Objective: The Orange
Juice Blending System is efficient, timely,
and conserves the maximum amount of concentrate.
Raw Materials: Water at normal temperature of 55 to 85 degrees F,
Orange Juice Concentrate at a Brix Content of 64%
Target:
Blended water-orange juice at a Brix of 11.5 at a rate of 90 gpm.
Proposal:
Orange Juice Concentrate is allowed to pass through a two way valve located
as close as possible to the Orange Juice Concentrate Storage Tank. A Positive
Displacement Pump that is frequency speed controlled, pumps the concentrate into
a
blending chamber that is feeding water into a high speed centrifugal pump. The
centrifugal pump is running at a constant speed/or variable so as to pressurize
the inlet
valve to the balance tank. The feed to the centrifugal pump has a pressure
transmitter
located in the blending chamber area. If over pressurization
occurs the pressure
transmitter will shut off the PD Pump. The blended concentrate and water mixture
is
passed through the Advantec Sensor that measures the Brix concentration and
shows the
current Brix reading to the PLC's, Positive Displacement Pump Speed Control PID
loop.
If the Brix is too low, the PD Pump will speed up and if the Brix is too high,
the PD Pump
will slow down .
The
balance tank level control, throttles the inlet valve to maintain a
constant flow
into
the balance tank. The centrifugal pump should be a high speed pump running
at max
speed to emulsify the concentrate water mixture. The Empty Concentrate Supply
Line
Sensor will signal the PLC that the feed line to the PD Pump has become empty.
The
PLC will open the Two-Way Water Feed Valve flushing the feed line to the PD
Pump.
The Advantec Sensor will show the change in Brix concentration and alert the
operator that
the Orange Juice Concentrate is depleted.
